Aliens Review by Ammar Akhtar

Aliens stars Sigourney Weaver and is directed by James Cameron. Aliens picks up after the events of it's predecessor Alien. Ripley is back to safety, but she is struggling with some PTSD from her unbelievable encounter with the alien. The planet on which Ripley and her crew found this alien has been colonized by the humans, but when contact is lost, they must go and find out what is going on.

The first movie, Alien, is considered to be a sci-fi classic, but I didn't really enjoy it too much. I thought it had some very slow build up that definitely could have been fixed. With the movies sequel Aliens, all of my issues with the first one were fixed.

First off, one of the main problems with the first one was the pacing. It went extremely slow at points. I understand they were trying to build suspense this way, but it still bored me. With Aliens however, it was slow build up, but it worked. The pace was much quicker than Alien, but it didn't lose the slow suspense. It was still there, but it somehow worked with the film in a nice way.

One other way how the movies pacing was fast was with the stakes. The stakes go to the extreme. Instead of just one, there were multiple aliens going after the humans. This did help the scare levels go higher than the last one since there was only one alien in it.

Something I adore about the first and second Alien movies is Sigourney Weaver's character, Ripley. She's unlike any other female hero. She's a tough puppy, and she is willing to do anything to save the lives of many. She can be compared to many other male heroes today. She's very much equal to any strong man.

Overall, Aliens got everything right. It had more intense scenes was had a much faster pacing than it's predecessor. Director James Cameron did an excellent job with this film, and he managed to create a better film than Ridley Scott's Alien.

MY SCORE: 9.5/10
