The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water Review by Ammar Akhtar

Sponge Out of Water stars Spongebob Squarepants, Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and Plankton. When a pirate above the sea has stolen the secret formula for the krabby patty, it's up to Spongebob and the rest of the crew to get it back and save it.

I'm not going to lie: I'm a fan of Spongebob. I watched it when I was a little kid, but this show really needs to stop making new episodes. It's really stupid now and it will never capture the magic that the older episodes had (those episodes to me were during 1999-2007). Evidence that this show needs to be discontinued is this movie.

I want you all to know something very clear when entering Sponge Out of Water: It's EXTREMELY HYPER. It probably seems really stupid to those of you who've seen the trailers for the movie, but trust me your mind is going to explode, and not in the good way. There was not one moment in which this felt like a normal movie. It's VERY fast paced, and it will not hold on to you if you get tired. Every single character feels as though their high on drugs. There is a TON of energy filled into the movie, but it feels so forced that it really started to annoy me. Honestly, if you think you're going to see the next Shawshank or something, think again because this film is simply not normal.

Something else that really bothered me was Antonio Banderas' character. First off the acting was VERY over the top. It was like watching someone from 'Batman and Robin'. Characters in that film felt so exaggerated and stupid due to their acting and dialogue. Banderas felt exactly the same, and he's simply there for the entertainment of children. He didn't even feel relevant to the story whatsoever. It didn't feel necessary, and it actually made the film a bit of a mess because some parts were unclear due to his story.

Overall, I'm displeased with Sponge Out Of Water. This movie will make you and your children dumb. If you're a fan of old school Spongebob like myself, prepare to be disappointed because this film isn't good at all. Sure it has Spongebob and his friends, but this movie feels like a nine year old kid high on sugar. Please, stay away from this movie.

MY SCORE: 2.5/10
