Top 5 David O. Russell Movies

David O. Russell's is part of a generation of filmmakers who have started with indie films and have slowly moved up to the Hollywood features. His eccentric movies include characters that go to the extremes. Seven different actors from his movies have received Oscar nominations and three of them have won. Today, we rank the top five of his seven movies.

5. 'American Hustle'

The most successful aspect of 'American Hustle' is the creation of the atmosphere. The story is about a conman who helps FBI frame the bribers in congress. With brilliant acting performances and an even better costume & make-up department, the movie takes you back to the 1970s.

4. 'Three Kings'

A movie that definitely shows David O. Russell never sticks to one genre, 'Three Kings' stars George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Ice Cube. It tells the story of the aftermath of the Persian Gulf War where four soldiers set out to steal gold that was stolen from Kuwait. With unpredictable plot twists, this is definitely a war story to remember.

3. 'Silver Linings Playbook'

Winning an Oscar for the role of Tiffany, Jennifer Lawrence steals the show opposite of Bradley Cooper who was also nominated for the role. 'Silver Linings Playbook' is about an unlikely couple who are struggling with their own problems: both social and mental. What makes this movie special and memorable is the chemistry between the two leads and the fun finale that mixes a palette of emotions together.

2. 'I Heart Huckabees'

If Woody Allen and the Coen brothers ever decided to make a movie together, this would be the result. 'I Heart Huckabees' tells the story of an environmentalist befriending a macho firefighter on their way to answering life's hardest questions with the help of the so called existential detectives. The movie touches on a lot of psychological theories and its ensemble cast with the memorable dialogue will make you think about everything...nothing...everything...nothing.

1. 'The Fighter'

'The Fighter' isn't your typical Russell movie, it is much darker and tells the story of the real life boxer Micky Ward and his brother. The realism in this movie will hit you hard in the face as you unexpectedly await to see whether this movie is a tragedy or a victory story. 'The Figher' won Christian Bale a well-earned Academy Award for best supporting actor.
