With an acting career that lasted 70 years, the entire film industry was shocked to hear the passing away of one of the most iconic horror movie actors. Sir Christopher Lee has become an iconic actor in many movies that shaped genres and remained in our hearts forever. Today, in his honor, we count his top 10 roles.
10. 'The Mummy' (1959)
One of the first attempts at a Mummy movie, 'The Mummy' is about a group of British archeologists discovering an ancient tomb. Lee brought something completely new to the role that wasn't brought in the 1939 take. He brought a lot of depth to the character. The mummy wasn't on a revenge rampage, but he was destroying those that broke the memory of his love. This is without a doubt, a very overlooked gem.
9. 'Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith' (2005)
There aren't many great things about the 'Star Wars' prequels, however Lee's role as Count Dooku is definitely one of them. His evil presence dominated every scene that he was in. When you finish watching this movie, you will not forget the character.
8. 'The Devil Rides Out' (1968)
One of Lee's personal favorites, 'The Devil Rides Out' is about a group of people that try to take down a satanic cult group. It is one of those rare times that Lee plays a heroic character and he absolutely nails it.
7. 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' (1959)
Lee brings his charisma and charm into one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic Sherlock Holmes stories. It is a rare moment for Lee to not play an antagonist. He returns to the Sherlock Holmes universe later on in the 70s as the detective's brother Mycroft in 'The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes'.
6. 'The Man with the Golden Gun' (1974)
By far one of the best Bond villains was played by Lee. His charisma and overall presence are what make the movie's best moments. His duel and confrontation with Roger Moore are truly the movie's highlights.
5. 'Jinnah' (1998)
Lee plays the founding father of Pakistan in this very overlooked historical piece. He has described this role as: "the most important film I made, in terms of its subject, and the responsibility I had as an actor."
4. 'The Wicker Man' (1973)
'The Wicker Man' is about a police officer sent to a small island to find a missing girl. Lee demonstrates another phenomenal performance as a madman. This is a thriller and horror classic and has been labeled as one of the greatest movies ever made.
3. 'Lord of the Rings' Trilogy (2001)
Saruman the White is one of the most iconic characters in 'Lord of the Rings'. He has an incredible duel with Gandalf the Grey and every line that Lee performs sends chills down your back. This is probably Lee's most well known role.
2. 'The Curse of Frankenstein' (1957)
Frankenstein's monster. Probably Hollywood's most famous monster. Like with every other role, Lee has given a heart and soul to the most unlikely character. The movie is a success for cinema in terms of make up, effects and the overall execution.
1. 'Dracula' (1958)
You should have probably guessed that this was the number one pick. Lee has given an incredible performance as the best Dracula in cinema history. Everything from his seductiveness to his horror was brilliant; it was a role that he was born to play.
He has left a mark in all of our hearts in many different shapes. What is you favorite Christopher Lee movie? Tell us in the comments!
